Lamar Fike's quote that "you could smell him coming" referred to Elvis'
cologne, not body odor. Get it right.

The good ol' Brute.... 4 bucks at Wallyworld right now, which makes it hard
to believe it was so fancy that Elvis wore it....:-))

As I recall, Brut was quite popular back then, along with several other
colognes that people probably sneer at today...Jovan's Musk, British
Sterling, etc...

<<<<The good ol' Brute.... 4 bucks at Wallyworld right now, which makes

In the 60's and 70's Brut was a "high end" cologne! My Dad used to wear
it and it would come in these very ornate green velvet lined boxes with
a very heavy silver medallion and chain on the bottle. It used to be
sold "behind the counter" at the major dept. stores. Now it is a totally
budget scent.

A few years ago they did a test where they had women smell several
different colognes, high end and low end, without knowing which was
which and pick their favorites. The majoraty of women picked the cheapy;
English Leather over all the expensive stuff! Old Spice came in second
and Brut third!

I've also read that Elvis used a high end French cologne called Zizani I
think.

Chuck, read page 709 in the "Elvis and the Memphis mafia" - I'll quote
one sentence from Billy Smith: "He wouldn't have taken a bath for
anything."

Elvis didn't shower regularly, so there is no telling how often he
showered

Excuse me here, but is the point really how many times Elvis showered?
How many times someone did or didn't like his personal body odor, or
his favorite colonge?
Good Lord people! If this is something "Billy Smith" can write he isn't
worth reading.
We each have a human smell put off by endorphins in our body that
straight out of a shower, or bed or ditch digging, is pretty much how
we smell.
I have passed Elvis in the hall after a concert, and by then any "Bath
of Colonge" was gone from hot lights and sweat. He did NOT smell. Not
in the way you people are trying to put it. He smelled like a man, a
clean, hungry, tired, over worked MAN.
Wouldn't he just be thrilled to know that his personal body "Odor" is a
subject of conversation? Lets move on now to his breath? Did he brush
often or not? Did he like onions and garlic a bit too often, or not?
WHO CARES?
This is almost to a point of nit-picking and discusting.

Fortunately Elvis felt differently about Billy and that's all that
matters...
