two and a half years in his early days." (http://tinyurl.com/2rhkck). When
was this?

Here's a more detailed story. Link has a pix of her and Elvis:

Shirley Searcy Delgado, who dated Elvis Presley about 50 years ago
during the singer's early career, died Monday in her Houston home,
apparently of a heart attack. She was 72.

In the mid-1950s, Presley spotted Delgado in the audience at the
Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport, where he was performing, said her
son, Victor Matthew Delgado of Houston.

During an intermission, Presley "grabbed her and took her backstage to
the band, saying, 'Look what I found,' " her son said.

Romance ensued, and Presley and Shirley Delgado intended to marry, her
son said. But Presley's manager, Col. Tom Parker, decided that
"marriage was not a good business move" for the singer, he added.

Delgado and Presley, however, continued to see each other from time to
time but eventually went their separate ways, Victor Delgado said.

Shirley Delgado was born June 18, 1934, in Troup, the daughter of Harm
Searcy and his wife, Bert Ferguson Searcy.

She attended Kilgore College, where she was a member of the school's
famous Rangerettes drill team, Victor Delgado said.

She became an executive secretary for an oil company in Shreveport,
where she met her future husband, Victor M. Delgado, a physician who
was an intern at a hospital.

The couple lived in Monterrey, Mexico, for five years and in Terrell
before moving to Houston. They later divorced. Her former husband, who
is retired, lives in Houston.

In addition to her son, survivors include three daughters, Melody
Suzanne Delgado of Troup, Stacey Sophia Delgado of Houston and Ricci
Mace of Fort Worth; a brother, David Searcy of Troup, and a sister,
Delight Searcy of Kilgore.

Think she would have learned a lesson from her former druggy
boyfriend.

Thing is, I believe the story is (at best) exaggerated. Personally, I can't
even remember hearing her name before this "ex-girlfriend dies" story popped
up here on AEK as well as on several Elvis websites a few days back. She had
her picture taken with Elvis like thousands of others, but that doesn't
prove much.

This may very well have happened, but...

AFAIK Elvis first appeared at the Louisiana Hayride mid-October 1954. If we
assume that their alleged two and a half years relationship started at this
show, that means Elvis was dating this girl until mid-April 1957, around the
same time Elvis bought Graceland. (If it's supposed to have happened later,
the story is even more incredible).

I'm no expert on Elvis' girlfriends, but I do know that during 1955 he was
dating among others, Dixie Locke, whom he'd been seeing fairly often since
they met in January 1954. Later June Juanico became Elvis' (more or less)
steady girlfriend for some time, and rumors during the summer of '56 had it
Elvis and June was engaged. Both Elvis and June denied this, but anyway, I
guess they were very close. June also traveled with Elvis on tour every now
and then I believe. Then during the filming of "LMT" he started dating
Natalie Wood, and in Memphis his new girlfriend was Barbara Hearn. In
between the other two, I believe he still met with June every now and then.
(AFAIK he didn't stop seeing June before she informs him in March '57 that
she is engaged to be married). Later in '56 he also dated a couple of LV
showgirls, Marilyn Evans and Dottie Harmony, the latter also spending
Christmas and New Year with Elvis and his parents in Memphis.
And during all this, in a period of two an a half years, Elvis supposedly
was heavily involved with this other girl, intending to marry her. Sorry, I
just don't buy it. Of course, Elvis dated a lot of girls at the time, and he
may very well have dated this girl as well, but my guess is it was nothing
like what's described by her son in the media lately. But please correct me
if I'm wrong.

T. The name is new to me and the guys too.
If anything, maybe he saw her when he was in Louisiana doing the Hayride and
that didn't last long. I can assure you there was no talk of marriage back
then.

Let's not also forget that he was hot and heavy in '57 with Anita Wood.

why post if the posting is to be removed? the part of archives is so
someone can look back and see what's posted for research.

this would come in handy... but with removed postings and incomplete
posted threads it's worthless.

Not just books, but Linda Thompson herself has said Klein introduced
her to Elvis.

Who and what was this post a reply to? Anyway, I believe the circumstances
regarding the introduction has been explained in details in a another thread
some days back.

Shirley did date Elvis. My mother lived in the same rooming house as Shirley and has told the story of Elvis coming to pick up her friend for dates. My mother was less than impressed with Elvis' looks, by the way.
