Discussion:
Should atheists be paid for public holidays that recognize events they don't believe in?

They don't believe in God so they shouldn't receive holiday pay
for Christmas. The recognized holiday is "Christmas", not that
"solstice" abomination they call it..

Similar principle would then apply
to all holidays and to all people
who do not respect the particular holiday nature.

There is written the Sun and rain comes to both good and bad people.
Consider holidays as sunny days.

Be careful or those of the Jewish faith will be asking for paid holidays
for their festivals, like Passover. The same for Chinese New Year, etc.
Sometimes it is better to just let sleeping dogs lie.

Of course they should. Holidays are provided to give people an
occasional break from the work they do every day.

Those who follow a particular religion can use it to celebrate their
faith. Those of another faith or no faith at all can use it in
whatever way they choose.

By the way, there are plenty of people who believe in God who don't
celebrate Christmas. Christmas is a Christian holiday. Many other
religions also have a God.
