Post by GeniePost by KathyGenie, Do you mean the song sung by Gordon Lightfoot? Boy, does that
bring back memories! lol. Ok not about Elvis really, well ok maybe.
Anyway, there was this guy in my home town, that looked sooo much like
Elvis, build, facial features, could sing, you name it, Well anyway he
was too old for us girls at the time, I was around 15 or 16, and he was
probably in his early twenties. He would bring his Guitar over to my
friends house and play and sing, and women would come from miles
around, no lie!! So one day he showed up at my friends house, and there
was no way we could force ourselves to leave, so my freind told her Dad
she didn't feel good, and stayed home from school, and I skipped it all
together, ( I got caught too, but it was worth it) well he sang songs
all day long to us, and one of them was "If You Could Read My Mind"
Every time I hear that song, I think of that day, and when I see
Elvis's 68 come back special I think of him, because he would just sit
and play his Guitar, and his personality was so much like Elvis's that
they could have been twins,. By the way,I never once heard him mention
Elvis's name. I don't even know if he was an Elvis fan. Like Elvis,
what he had was a God given talent. ( Ok Ladies yes I did sneak a
little kiss, who could resist?)
I just wanted to share this with you. I feel as though it was one of
those special things that happens to you in life, that always stays in
your heart.
That was related to Elvis, in many ways. And a wonderful story.
Yes, I liked Gordon Lightfoots song so much, I related to the words in
more ways than one.
I also (how odd) knew a youngman who briefly came into the clinic in
Seattle, who could have passed for Elvis at about 18.
Everyone's jaw dropped (at least in my age bracket) and other's looked
on because he was such a doll. I doubt it was plastic surgery, he
claimed no talent at all... in fact he was interested in being a Doctor
not a singer.
That year it was a Vet Clinic, so as not to confuse anyone that he was
standing in a Plastic surgeons office...lol
He enjoyed being told how much like Elvis Presley he looked, but said
that his Mother wished he looked more plain so people wouldn't stare.
They stare if you're ugly, and they stare if you're gorgeous- I guess?
The worry is, I get that all the time. So people stare when you appear
crazy also. I even look all the way around me, and God only knows
which it might be, maybe all of the above in one way or another?
Especially as tired as I feel before Christmas strikes midnight.....
carts full of cat food, dog food, bird food, Hamster food, and toys,
toys and more stuff'n'things. Doesn't the smallest living creature
truly deserve a Merry Christmas?
God bless us all, and pray for peace and strength within.
Since Gordon Lightfoot has come up, I'll go ahead and post this.
Tonight I went to dinner with friends and had a couple martinis and a
glass of wine...my doctor said I could have up to three drinks on any
one occasion a couple times a week and I rarely do, but hell, it's
Christmas, so fuck it...but I was kind of bored when I got home, so I
decided to organize some cds I had just kinda stacked around and I came
across one that I hadn't listened to in some time but I find pretty
amazing.
I don't know if anybody here listens to this singer, her name is Eva
Cassidy, and I'm not sober enough to remember her life story at this
point, but I just have to say that I don't think I have ever heard a
more beautiful voice in my life. I have several of her discs, each one
loaded with beautiful covers of standards and familiar tracks, but
unfortunately not heard by many. This one is called "Imagine" and
includes her cover of that John Lennon song, as well as Lightfoot's
"Early Morning Rain," "Tennessee Waltz," "Danny Boy," "Fever," the
stunning Sandy Denny song " Who Knows Where The Time Goes," and a few
others, all beautiful, heartbreaking, tear jerking, whatever.... On
other discs she's done great versions of Sting's "Fields Of Gold" and
probably the best "Over The Rainbow" ever.
Anyway, she died young, at 33, a real shame, a great loss, another
incredible talent gone too soon, but what can you do? Listen to her
sing, you won't be disappointed.
